From the Desk of .........................................................................................Rev. John Wang
Happy Chinese New Year "Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord!" (Phil 3:1) A new year offers new directions. As the new year gets under way, we all have plans and expectations. We hope to graduate, find a job, buy a house, get a promotion, visit the world, etc. Our society values success. Everyone envies those that are more successful, and dreams of ways to get ahead of them. But many people realize, after years of hard work, that the standards for success also come at a cost. They ultimately exchange inner contentment for external status. The question arises: is it worth it? We who live in this society tend to think the same way. How can I get the promotion? How can I better decorate my home? How can I get a perfect score? This kind of thinking leads to stress, anger, worry, and depression. In reality, failure is more commonplace than we would like to believe. We busy ourselves with hard work and with lofty notions of future riches and success, but we forget the real meaning of life: worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ. What is driving me? Money? Status? Success? Sex? What is keeping me from being in touch with myself and with the creator of my life? Many times we live for others. We say to our spouse, I can't be happy unless you are happy. We say to our children, I will help you finish your homework. We say to our coworkers, you can leave, I'll finish up here. We are the pillars at home, the helpers at work, and the examples at church. But inside there is no real joy because we are not doing any of it out of a willing heart. We are motivated only by a sense of responsibility to satisfy the expectations of others. If I don't do this, who will? If I fail, who will take the responsibility? The final judgment always falls on ourselves. Therefore, we live with the constant fear of failure; there is no real joy and freedom inside. This is not the way God wants us to be. He wants us to experience the joy and freedom of His presence. What is there to fear in failure? In losing? Everything on this earth will eventually pass away. Let us live today, and every day, for the Lord. Let the only fear among us be the fear of the Lord; only then can we fulfill our purpose for living. UMW Collecting Recycled Materials-2/7 Please note the UMW collects recycled materials monthly on the 1st Sunday. They will also collect recycling items for Nancy. Please bring the items to church on 2/7 ONLY. Do not bring it on Saturday or other days. Otherwise, the church will dump them because of the public health reason. The guidelines for brining your recycling materials are as below: 1. No tin cans accepted. These are the ones that hold can meats, fruit, and vegetables. 2. Rinse all plastic containers, glass containers, and soda cans with water and rain well. 3. Smash all plastic containers and soda cans before putting them into a plastic bag. 4.
